                                  ************NEXT MEETING*************

WHEN:         Monday, May 5, 2008 at 7:00PM

WHERE:       Johnnys NY Pizza,    Dawsonville Highway,    Gainesville

SPEAKER:    John Kissane

PROGRAM:  "Writing About Running" John will give a bit of background on how he started writing for Running Times magazine and then talk about some of my favorite interviews and stories.

John grew up in Grinnell, Iowa, a small college town. He attended Grinnell College and graduated in 1983 (ran both cross country and track) and then went on to graduate school at the University of Virginia. He has worked in Iowa and Georgia as a planner and historic preservation consultant and is presently self-employed doing historic preservation consulting and freelance writing. He also coordinates a local non-profit organization known as Safe Routes Athens which works to encourage children to walk and bike to school. He lived in Athens from 1987 to 1990, Gainesville from 1990 to 1998 and has been back in Athens the past 10 years. John said "I have been running consistently for more than 30 years now. No outstanding running accomplishments to mention, but I did run a 2:59 marathon in March. I'm hoping to take aim at the state 50-54 record (currently a very soft 2:57) in 2010. It's pretty unlikely I'll achieve that but it's good to have as a goal." John is married to Amy and they have two children, Emma age 14 and William age 12.

The second annual  chickEKIDEN         26.2 mile relay event was a great success!!!
