LRC YOUTH COMPETION TEAM

The Lanier Running Club was approved in November 2008 as a competitive USATF Club.  This allowed the Club to register teams and individuals in the USATF Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships in November 2008.  In a very short time the Club recruited 26 middle school and high school age athletes mostly in the Hall County area to compete for the Club in the Georgia USATF Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships.  Our 3 teams placed first in their divisions and all our athletes qualified for the Regional Championships in Virginia.  Our Intermediate Girl’s Team won Region and we had 9 athletes to qualify for the USATF JO XC National Championships in VA.

We want to build on this beginning and recruit young athletes of all ages in our area to introduce them to track & field and cross country through the USATF Junior Olympic Program.  There is no youth track and field program in our area and the schools do not have track or cross country programs below the 6th grade.

We need Sponsors for our Youth Program to serve young athletes ages 8-18 which will include participation in the USATF Junior Olympics Championships in Track and Field and Cross Country.  We need uniforms, track and field equipment and funds to help with registration fees and travel expenses.

2011 Track & Field and Cross Country Schedule

The Junior Olympic Track & Field and Cross Country Championships are patterned after the Olympic Games.  Beginning with the Georgia Association Championships, LRC Athletes have the opportunity to advance to the Regional and National Championships in Track & Field and Cross Country.

Results from USATF National Junior Olympic Cross Country Meet in Hoover, Alabama on December 11, 2010

WOW!  We had a very busy but great day yesterday.  Thanks to all families and friends who came to cheer, encourage and support all the athletes and a very special "Thanks" to the coaches.  Many learned for the first time the magnitude of a USATF Junior Olympic XC National Championship.  There were over 2200 athletes that competed.  I'm so proud of all our athletes who competed.  Many of our athletes have been sick over the past 2 weeks and maybe their results were not what they had planned, but you came and competed for your team.  We also learned that competition at the National level is tough.  Congratulations!  You were able to compete at this meet.

We had over 40 athletes to compete yesterday.  We had 3 "All Americans" who placed in the top 25 of their division; Ty McCormack, 2nd place in Young Men; Cody Barger, 7th place in Young Men and Madalyn Walters, 21st Place in Young Women.  The Young Women's Team and Young Men's Team finished in 3rd place for medals.  Thanks to all who were able to stay for the Awards Ceremony.
